Morad Behandish

Associate Professor

Dr. Morad Behandish joined our school as an Associate Professor in Spring 2026. Before returning to academia, he spent several years leading cross-disciplinary research in computational design and digital manufacturing in industry, serving as a Senior Manager and Associate Director at SRI International (2023-25) and Research Director and Area Manager at the Palo Alto Research Center (2020-23). Prior to joining PARC as a Research Scientist in 2017, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the International Computer Science Institute of UC Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and his M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from UConn in 2016, and his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2008.

His research focuses on geometric and physical modeling to support design automation, digital materials, and advanced manufacturing. As a PI on multiple DARPA and DoD programs, he has led teams of researchers developing new methods for co-design of materials and structures, design and process planning for hybrid additive and subtractive manufacturing, multi-scale and multi-physics analysis, and scientific AI. His work has also emphasized technology transition to commercial partners.

He serves as an Editor of Computer-Aided Design and has served on the executive and program committees of Solid Modeling Association and Solid and Physical Modeling symposia. He has co-authored 50+ papers, co-invented 60+ patents, and received 10+ awards recognizing his contributions to research, leadership, and innovation.
